MSP predictions 2024 - executive summary In a recent Canalys poll, 56% of channel partners expected over 10% year-on-year growth in their managed services businesses in 2024. A quarter of all partners in the same poll expected over 20% growth. Though global economic conditions remain uncertain and geopolitics are in turmoil, the reality for many businesses is that they still need channel partners to help manage their IT estates and add value to their investments. #trends2024 #MSP #MSSP #MSPtrends #Channel #MSPpredictions #data Canalys Full predictions report here: https://lnkd.in/e3ZBGUR9

It’s been a week since the global IT meltdown triggered by a single faulty software update. For many retailers, this outage highlighted 1️⃣ acute need for improved Disaster Recovery planning, 2️⃣ benefits of diversity across the tech stack and 3️⃣ importance of fundamentals of vetting updates and patches before deployment... Disaster Recovery: While most retailers are prepared to handle events that impact a subset of their systems, few were ready for a shutdown of every endpoint in their stores, especially one that required manual intervention to get back online. Organizations with comprehensive DR plans, and those with a Technology Ally to call on in times of crisis, faired better than those without. Diversity: Many organizations experienced the fact that while concept of 'Single Pane of Glass' still holds immense value, if implemented without diversity in the tech sack it can reduce resiliency and result in 'single point of failure'. Visibility of the entire IT environment does not mean being tied to a monolithic architecture. In fact, retailers with multi-OS environments (typically Windows on the fixed POS and Android on Mobile POS) faired better and were able to transact ahead of those just running only Windows-based desktop POS. Fundamentals of Change Management: Finally, this outage shined the spotlight on the importance of controlled approval/deployment of ANY software updates or feature releases, especially in highly distributed environments. For retail endpoints, hardened versions of OS such as Windows LTSC, that limit updates to non-core components, should also be highlighted as a good practice. Looking in the rearview, despite the chaos and massive financial fallout, we are incredibly ‘fortunate’ that this incident was caused by a bad software patch and not malware. However expensive, this wake-up call is an opportunity to re-think how retailers think about tech diversity, disaster recovery and basics of software management. #Retail #Cybersecurity #BusinessContinuity #MultiVendor #DisasterRecovery

"Now AWS says in the hearing report it has determined that supporting customers to multi-cloud is the stronger commercial incentive" This put a smile on my face. My first thought - welcome to the party. This has been going on for the past 24-36 months. 2nd thought - not a lot in here about the client's success, the client's business, what might be best for the client. We see the market employing hybrid and multi-cloud designs. IT Leaders are tailoring their production workloads for price and performance efficiencies, by cloud type and cloud characteristics. Smart.

With 2025 just weeks away, there’s no time like the present to start planning to ensure a successful New Year cybersecurity strategy. So what does that entail? Last week was a busy week for us in EMEA, with 4 panel opportunities for Fortanix to be part of exciting and interesting conversations regarding data security in light of advances in tech, such as AI and third party collaboration. For organisations to be able to make better decisions, solve more complex problems, and gain deeper insights through collaboration, a data-first security strategy, built on a foundation of Confidential Computing, will drive competitive advantage. And don't just take our word for it, as Analysts such as Gartner are saying organisations that utilise third party data sharing collaboration strategies will outperform their competitors on most business value metrics. However, to get it right, the focus has to come back to how to secure company data, to ensure only the right people can see the right data at the right time, without hindering the opportunity to innovate companies, markets and economies. Thanks to Andy Buckland, David King and Niko Ekert for the insightful discussion within the Evanta, a Gartner Company DACH CISO Community Town Hall. One of the discussions points focussed around how to effectively predict and solve for the explosion of data and content used within AI tools, with appropriate management and resourcing, and not just within the technology scope. As usual, there is a strong requirement to consider People and Process in the equation - whether through ever-adapting user training to ask the right prompt questions; or with the policies and procedures required to ensure information integrity, ethical standards and governance, especially in highly regulated markets. On top of their day jobs, I also wanted to thank my colleagues: Simon Thornell for joining me on our Security as a Business Driver webinar (on demand version to be available soon - as well as a new blog and white paper we're keen to share too) Andrew Mulligan for participating in the Protecting Brand Integrity panel, and Rob Stubbs 🔑 ☁ 🔒 for participating in the Demystifying DORA panel, both taking place at CyberExpo Ireland, with our Channel partner Renaissance Lot of great insights, opinions and new conversations started as a result, which I look forward to using in our wider GTM activity as the year progresses. Follow us to keep up to date, and join the conversation with us. As the more we drive data security across the value chain, the more we drive up minimum data security standards across businesses, industries and markets, and as a result, the more we secure the world's data.

The demands of AI integration across all products has led to data volumes rapidly increasing, requiring organisations to now turn to multi-cloud strategies. Yet, this rapid adoption at a huge scale has also brought new security challenges to the front. Thales Inc’s 2024 Cloud Security study has revealed a growing sense of urgency surrounding cloud security, with over a third saying they want to prioritise this within their enterprise security budgets. News out of #SUSECON24 as it is coming to a wrap, Beth Pariseau dropped a great article on SUSE perceived activities to make Rancher more attractive to VMware by Broadcom customers, given the licensing changes. 📰 FULL STORY: https://lnkd.in/eVctRHhn 🤯 I talk about it being a head-scratcher that the big announcement added #O11y to Rancher by acquiring StackState. This is not SUSE's biggest issue, and we see in the data with our partner ETR (Enterprise Technology Research) that Rancher, after a spike in interest post-licensing change announcement, things are cooling off in a part of the market is almost as hot as #AI, the container orchestration market. With this acquisition, they aim to bring more value to #Rancher customers but will alienate #ecosystem #partners. 📉 As we track #SUSE Rancher with our partner ETR (Enterprise Technology Research) (ETR.ai), we see that organizations have been evaluating more Rancher towards the end of 2023 as the announcement of the VMWare by Broadcom licensing changes. After that excitement, we saw that new evaluations had shrunk, and we expect this to continue in the July data. We also see flat spending intentions with SUSE growing, meaning that organizations are holding tight while spending on container platforms, and container orchestration is only second to spending on AI. With Rancher, we see the blue line "net score" heading downward, which signals a slowing in spending momentum.
